It's unimaginable that it's been 5 years since we lost Greg. So much has happened since then that he would have enjoyed. Every time I see my nephews and my new grand-niece, I am reminded of him because his spirit and legacy are certainly sustained by them.

Well Dad, 55 years old today, Happy Birthday!!! It still hurts so much that you are not around here anymore. Your White Sox are doing great again this year, and as you know the deal you had last year got us a World Series Championship, I hope you can pull another one off this year. I wish I could give you a kiss and a hug for your B-Day, but know that Mom, Andrew, Chris, Wanda and I love you, miss you and think about you always

Greg - Your White Sox did it - they won the World Series! Somehow it feels as if you had your hand in the outcome. Wish you were here to enjoy it with us. Every step of the way, I was watching the games but always thinking of you. It has been an emotional roller coaster ride and knowing how excited you would be made it more meaningful for many, many family members and friends. Great work Greg - thank you for helping us feel the excitement - magnified by our love for you.

Miss you very much - Mike

I knew Greg as a neighbor on Rhodes in Chicago and enjoyed him and his family as friends for a number of years. I have not kept in touch until recently but am saddened at his passing. He was always the young kid hanging around with Mike, Myron, and their mom. Good memories.

We remember fond memories of volleyball games, great stories, and good food with the Gburs at the Blaho's parties. Greg was a wonderful human being and was always upbeat and fun to be around. He will be missed.
An honored guest

To Jason: My name is Larry Kociolek. I was the person who hired your father at CNA many, many years ago. Your dad ran computer equipment when IBM cards were still the record of choice. Your dad was one of the most conscientious and hardworking people who ever worked for me. And above all, always a gentleman.

I watched your dad's career blossom through hard work and determination and hated to see him leave. If I remember correctly, your dad also worked for my Father-in-law at Gately's Peoples store in Roseland while in High School. And my wife reminded me that your Dad also helped us move to our first home in Oak Forest.

Your dad STILL has many friends at CNA that will always be thinking and praying for him.

We will always remember his contagious smile and his down to earth demeanor. He is a special person. We share your loss.

One of the most extraordinary things I'll always remember about Uncle Greg is that he never uttered an unkind word about anyone. While growing up and until the day he left us, he was always very polite and kind to everyone around him. You'll always hear these things after a person passes, but in Greg's case, it was 100% true. Evidence of this is that you see his values in his three boys and it's too bad more people aren't like him; this world would be a better place.

Kathe and I lived next door to Greg and Anita for several years in the Orland section near the library and we had the experience of knowing a true gentleman, caring husband and wonderful father. There is a saying that you can't pick your neighbors and in this case we could not ask for a better neighbor and we very fortunate. In the following years, after we both moved, but still both in Orland, my wife Kathe still maintained contact with Anita and we both would occasionally meet Greg and Anita shopping at the Mall or Jewel or elsewhere in our pursuits in raising our families in the Orland area.

We will miss him and hope that Anita and the boys (now grown men)will get their strength to move forward knowing that he leaves a legacy of goodwill and caring to all he met and a true human being in the fullest extent of the word. Kathe and I are fortunate that in knowing Greg we have had the opportunity to follow his example of his kindness and love for his family and the real priorities in this busy and crazy world we live in.

back again Greg , I want to thank-you again for your understanding and kindness in helping me change my tire in the parking lot in the middle of the winter . In Hawaii you saw that first night that I was sick and you went to get the car to bring me back to the condo . You had a huge heart to say the least . I am sure you are in a better place now John.

There's so many things I'd like to write but I don't think they could truly describe how much Greg was thought of and all the memories that come to mind. The following seemed very appropriate -

'God saw he was getting tired
and the cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around him and whispered
“Come with me”
With tearful hearts we watched him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
we could not make him stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best!'

My prayers are with you all.

I would just like to express my deepest sympathy for the Gbur family. Greg and I worked at Catipillar together and from the first time I met him, he made a lasting impression on me, what a caring, and friendly person.Theres not enough words that I can say to take your pain away, except maybe just to know that his suffering has ended and he is in a better place today, tomorrow and forever! Everyday of our lives we build memories that we store away, until the day comes we need them, you will never be without him because of these memories, Greg will always be with you.
